Results: 2025 Wet Coast Open Spring Fling

The Vancity Freestyle Sk8 crew held their second Wet Coast series open style contest – the “Spring Fling”, the first of two regional contests for 2025.

The contest took place on May 25th, 2025 with eight skaters competing. A few local Japanese skaters that competed last year were travelling in Japan and we had some skaters on nearby Vancouver Island that couldn’t make the date.

But that didn’t dampen the spirits of the competitors or fun for guests and spectators at Kevin Harris’s outdoor skate pad at his ranch in Delta BC.

We held two preliminary runs which decided the run order, then two runs for the finals. The higher of the scores would advance / rank the skaters.

Judges present were Kevin Harris, Lyle Chippeway, and Doug Haslett, old school local legends! At the judges meeting, it was discussed that the focus would be on a traditional freestyle run, with a focus on footwork and use of the surface.

Final results are as follows:

Position Riders Category Country Final Points
1 Orson Merry Am Canada 4
2 Carter Atkinson Am Canada 3.5
3 Daniel Harrigan Pro Canada 1.75
4 Cameron Dyck Am Canada 2
5 Cheyenne Williams Am Canada 1.5
6 David Faber Masters Canada 1
7 Gary Fix Masters Canada 0.5
8 Laser Pacific Am Canada 0
Wet Coast Spring Fling - Orson Merry - 360 Fingerflip
Orson Merry put together a trick-heavy run with moves like this 360 fingerflip to take first place. Thankfully, he didn’t lose his tongue in the process.

We also held a “Freestyle game of skate” where skaters form a circle and an 8 sided dice is rolled with trick categories. Skaters had to perform designated tricks per the dice roll with no repeats. Ultimately, David Faber won freestyle game of skate and won a custom painted skate deck with his choice of graphic.

Many thanks to Replay Board shop, Skeleton Mountie, Ultimate Distribution for prizes. Thanks to Cheyenne Williams for photos, David Faber for DJing, Terry Chui for organizing, trophies, filming, custom deck and merch.

Friends and family were in attendance and some younger kids were stoked to try skating freestyle after the contest. Hopefully we inspired them!

Everyone is looking forward to our next Wet Coast Open – “Showdown at the Ranch Round 2” on August 17th, 2025.

Wet Coast Spring Fling - Carter Atkinson - Railflip
Just in case you didn’t realise this contest took place on a ranch, here’s Carter Atkinson taking 2nd place with a railflip in front of Kevin’s truck.
Wet Coast Spring Fling - Dan Harrigan - Hand Caspers
Dan Harrigan – a.k.a. Sinfull Saintt – got 3rd place and confused our photo editor with tricks like this 180 fingerflip from a hand casper.
