Results: JFSA FREESTYLE SKATEBOARD CONTEST 3rd Stage

The third edition of the annual JFSA contest series happened on the 27th of July on the rooftop of Sun Street Hamakita shopping mall in Hamamatsu, Japan. Amidst the intense humidity and 35°C weather, twenty-five competitors (including one American participant) entered this event. Contestants skated on plywood segments that the organizers brought to the contest site and taped together within two hours before the contest began at around 11 a.m.

As usual for the JFSA events, competitors were assigned to 3-person heats (or a 2-person heat if the division had an odd number) with 5-minute practice sessions in between but, instead of returning to the top of the heat order for riders’ second run (which is standard in many western events), each heat completed their first run and placements were announced based on these initial routines.

Following an hour and a half of demonstrations on the mall’s nearby outdoor stage from professionals Kai Tanabe, Ikkei Nagao, Yuta Fujii, and Bryce Noe, the second runs occurred. After earning the gold in the women’s division at the World Championships in June, Kai Tanabe came back with a win in the professional division. Shu Morita took home the gold in the amateurs, while his little brother Soushi Morita placed first in the beginner division.
