The World Round-Up returns to the Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair for its 10th anniversary – but with some significant changes.
First, the venue is changing from the Curling Rink to the Alice McKay building, two buildings south of the usual location. This should mean a grippier surface this year – perfect for all the pogo specialists.
Second, the schedule is changing; Friday will be an optional freestyle practice day this year – meaning there will be no qualifying day – reducing the stress and time demands on the competitors overall. The doors will open at 12:00pm to 5pm for freestyle practice and there will be a “Roots of Skate” retro contest from 6-8pm. As a freestyle competitor, if you don’t need to practice on Friday, you don’t need to attend.
Saturday and Sunday will be the main freestyle days, with Women’s, Amateur, Pro, Masters Am and Pro divisions. There may also be a Rookies division if there are enough skaters.
Monday will be a specialty tricks day – handstands, 360 spin off, and so on. This day is also optional as not all freestyle skaters participate but it’s a fun day for everyone and is a chance to win additional prizes.
